Marine Deities and Serpentine CreaturesLuzio Romano (attrib.)

This fresco (1544–45) shows Tritons, Nereids, and serpentine sea creatures twisting across a shallow marine zone. It forms part of a painted frieze in a ceremonial room of Castel Sant’Angelo. The crowded bodies and interlocking tails indicate how Renaissance court decoration used mythological sea imagery to signal power, abundance, and control over nature.
