Painted by Charles de La Fosse (late 17th c.), this ceiling scene in the Salon d’Apollon glorifies the sun god driving his chariot across the sky. Apollo, a symbol of Louis XIV himself, radiates divine power and order, dispersing darkness and chaos. The work affirms the king’s mythologized identity as the Sun King and divine ruler.
