Max at the Orangerie Terrace

Max rests on the stone balustrade of the terrace, with the sweeping curve of the Orangerie below and the long palace façade above. The arched galleries of the Orangerie (17th c.) once sheltered rows of citrus trees, prized for their rarity and as displays of royal control over nature. The strict alignment of terraces, parterres, and architecture expresses Louis XIV’s program of ordered grandeur.
