This marble relief (c. 1685) glorifies Louis XIV as a triumphant warrior king. Shown in classical Roman attire, the king tramples his enemies beneath a spirited steed, echoing imperial conquest. Surrounding gold allegories trumpet his victory, turning architecture into propaganda at the height of absolutist France.
