Commissioned under Louis XIV (c. 1668), the Latona Fountain depicts the myth of Latona protecting her children, Apollo and Diana, transforming mocking peasants into frogs. Positioned at the base of the garden axis, it symbolizes royal justice and the divine right of kings, reinforcing Louis XIV’s image as the Sun King and a modern Apollo.
