King’s State Room
This ceremonial throne (1680s) in the Salon de Mercure was part of Versailles’ grand decorative program under Louis XIV. Placed before a tapestry and framed by gilded candelabra, it symbolized the monarch’s central role in court ritual. Though seldom used, its splendor affirmed the majesty of the Sun King and the power of absolutism.
