이 18세기 ‘원죄 없이 잉태되신 성모’ 조각은 왕관을 쓰고 흰 예복을 입은 성모를 묘사하며, 죄 없는 잉태를 상징한다. 이는 누에바 에스파냐에서 마리아 신심의 핵심 요소였다. 화려한 바로크 장식과 금박의 솔로몬식 나선 기둥에 둘러싸인 성모의 고요한 표정과 함께한 천사상들은 순수와 신적 은총의 주제를 드러내며, 종교·문화 생활에서 성모가 차지한 중추적 역할을 강조한다.
