Flaminio Obelisk and Twin Churches

146
The Flaminio Obelisk (13th c. BC), transported from Heliopolis by Augustus, rises on the left side of the square. Opposite it stand Santa Maria dei Miracoli on the left and Santa Maria in Montesanto on the right, Baroque twin churches (17th c.) framing the entrance to Via del Corso. Their axial alignment turns the piazza into a theatrical gateway to the historic city.
