Rooftop Catapult and Ammunition

This reconstructed medieval catapult on the terrace of Castel Sant’Angelo recalls the fortress’s military past. Once a papal stronghold and prison, the castle was equipped to resist sieges, especially during Rome’s turbulent Renaissance. The stone cannonballs complete the illusion of looming defense atop this ancient imperial mausoleum turned bastion.
