Giuseppe Cesaris Fresko zeigt Romulus, den mythischen Gründer Roms, wie er die Grenzen der Stadt markiert – ein Schlüsselmoment ihrer legendären Gründung im Jahr 753 v. Chr. Das Werk befindet sich im Saal der Horatier und Curiatier, greift den Gründungsmythos auf und stellt eine Verbindung zum Aufstieg der Römischen Republik im Jahr 509 v. Chr. her. Cesari, bekannt für seine Fresken, verleiht der Szene historische Würde und demonstriert seine Meisterschaft in dekorativen Bildzyklen.
