Saint Sebastian by Fernando YáñezFernando Yáñez de la Almedina
Fernando Yáñez de la Almedina, active in the early 16th century, played a key role in introducing the Italian High Renaissance style to Spain. His painting, ’Saint Sebastian’ (c.1506), showcases this influence through idealized anatomy and a luminous portrayal of the saint. Yáñez, possibly the ’Ferrando Spagnuolo’ from Leonardo da Vinci’s Florentine workshop, merged Spanish and Italian artistic elements in his work.
