Traditional Inca Clothing and Society
Inca clothing reflected social hierarchy and cultural identity. Men wore a wara , unku , and usuta , while women wore anacus with tupu fastenings. The Sapa Inca’s attire was unique and burned after use, symbolizing divine status. Regional dress identified origins, aiding assimilation of conquered peoples. Clothing offerings in ceremonies underscored spiritual beliefs. The Qhapaq Ñan road system supported empire integration, with reciprocity as its guiding principle.
