Ancient Peruvian Textile Fibers

Ancient Peruvians used cabuya , junco , totora , and cotton from at least 3000 BC. Cabuya, from agave, symbolized resilience for its strength. Totora, a reed from Andean lakes, was crafted into mats, ropes, and boats, binding life to water. Cotton, soft yet durable, enabled complex weaving and vivid dyes, elevating textiles into symbols of status and sacred tradition.
