Saint Eligius Healing the Horse

248
This tapestry (1500–25) from the Hôtel-Dieu cycle of the History of St Eligius shows the saint miraculously shoeing a horse by removing and reattaching its leg. The dense millefleurs (field of small flowers) background enriches the scene’s surface patterning. The panel forms part of a larger narrative set commissioned for the hospital’s devotional spaces.
