The Catholic Monarchs
Fernando II of Aragon and Isabel I of Castile, the Catholic Monarchs, unified Spain through their 1469 marriage. Their reign (1474–1504) completed the Reconquista, expelled Jews and Muslims, and sponsored Columbus’s 1492 voyage, opening the New World to European exploration. Their legacy shaped Spain’s religious and political landscape, laying the foundation for its Golden Age.
