Church of San Francisco

Founded in 1557 and rebuilt after the 1785 earthquake, the Church of San Francisco is Bogota’s oldest surviving religious building. The sober stone facade and white bell tower contrast with the richly carved Mudéjar ceiling and gilded altarpieces inside. Once part of a large Franciscan complex, it now faces a busy urban crossroads animated by vendors and everyday street life.
