Crowned Lions and Royal Bust

234
This upper stern relief from the warship Vasa (early 17th c.) shows two rampant lions supporting a crown above a royal bust. Beneath them, rows of busts evoke a council or court. The imagery proclaims royal majesty and dynastic legitimacy, making the vessel a floating stage for Swedish absolutist power.
