Ornate Panel from the Vasa Warship

585
Carved in Sweden in the early 17th c., this ornate panel from the Vasa warship features armored warriors beside cherubic putti presenting a laurel-wreathed vase. The imagery merges martial strength with classical ideals of victory and divine sanction, reinforcing the ship’s role as a floating emblem of Swedish royal authority.
