Luis and Julia stand beside the soaring south flank of Milan Cathedral (14th–20th cc.), one of the largest Gothic churches in the world. Behind them rises the ornate apse with its immense stained-glass window and elaborate tracery, embodying the cathedral’s vertical thrust and sculptural grandeur.
