Main Altar and Tabernacle

598
Set beneath the apse’s radiant stained glass (15th–19th cc.), the high altar and tabernacle form the liturgical heart of the cathedral. The bronze ciborium, crowned by a domed canopy, protects the consecrated host. Statues of bishops flank the sanctuary, underscoring the continuity of apostolic authority in Milan’s sacred space.
