This 18th c. ceiling panel depicts the biblical creation of Eve from Adam’s rib as he sleeps—an iconic moment of divine intervention. The imagery highlights Eve’s emergence as companion and counterpart. Framed by lavish floral and gold designs, it exemplifies the Quito School’s ornate Baroque expression and its emphasis on divine order and gendered origins.
