At the heart of this (18th c.) gilded retablo stands a sculptural Virgin, framed by columns, mirrors, and intricate relief. Above her, saints and angels form a celestial hierarchy. The overwhelming richness of gold leaf and layered imagery embodies the baroque ideal: to dazzle the senses and elevate the soul to divine mystery.
