This 17th-century copy of The Night Watch by Gerrit Lundens (c.1642–1655) highlights the original painting’s larger composition. In 1715, the artwork was trimmed on all sides, especially on the left, to fit between two doors at the Amsterdam Town Hall after being moved from the Kloveniersdoelen. The missing canvas strips were never recovered, illustrating the challenges of preserving art amid architectural changes.
