Copy of The Night WatchGerrit Lundens
This 17th-century copy of The Night Watch by Gerrit Lundens (1622–1686) highlights the original painting’s larger composition. Created between c. 1642–1655, it shows how the artwork was trimmed, especially on the left, when moved in 1715 to Amsterdam Town Hall. The painting had to fit between two doors, and the removed canvas strips were never recovered, altering the masterpiece’s original grandeur.
