Attributed to Gerrit Lundens, this 17th-century copy (c. 1642–1655) of Rembrandt’s The Night Watch reveals the original composition’s larger size. In 1715, the painting was trimmed on all sides, especially the left, to fit between two doors at the Amsterdam Town Hall after moving from the Kloveniersdoelen. The missing canvas strips were never recovered, illustrating the challenges of art preservation through changing spaces and times.
