This marble crowned Virgin with the Christ Child (c. 1260) forms the central column of Nicola Pisano’s pulpit in the Baptistery of San Giovanni. Embodying Gothic elegance and Classical poise, it symbolizes the Church as the mystical throne of wisdom. The angels and prophets below express reverence, uniting theology and maternal tenderness.
