Opera del Duomo Museum is the memory room of Pisa’s cathedral complex, born from the works office that built and maintained the monuments of Piazza dei Miracoli. By gathering sculptures, bronzes, and architectural fragments removed from the cathedral and baptistery, it traces how Romanesque clarity opened into the human drama of Gothic and early Renaissance carving—from Bonanno Pisano’s bronze door panels (c. 1180) to the intensely observed Madonnas of Nicola and Giovanni Pisano. Seen together, these displaced works show civic pride expressed through sacred art, and what endured after losses such as the 1595 cathedral fire.
