Virgin and ChildAndrea Pisano

269
This over-life-size marble sculpture (1345–47) once adorned the façade of Pisa Cathedral. Long attributed to Nino Pisano, later scholarship affirms Andrea Pisano as the author, citing the statue’s serene balance, gentle movement, and classical proportions. These traits reflect Andrea’s mature style, distinct from his son’s more vertical, expressive forms.
