This panel from Nicola Pisano’s pulpit (c. 1260) at the Pisa Baptistery shows the Presentation of Christ in the Temple. Classical drapery and Roman-influenced figures express solemn dignity. Pisano’s revival of ancient styles marked a turning point in the development of Italian Renaissance sculpture.
