Hittite Version of the Treaty of Kadesh

The Treaty of Kadesh (1258 BC) is the earliest known peace treaty, ending hostilities between the Hittite Empire and Egypt. Signed by Hittite king Hattusili III and Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II, it pledged eternal friendship, peace, and mutual aid. Inscribed in cuneiform on silver plates, it established boundaries in Syria and laid the groundwork for international law by recognizing both empires as equals. Copies were also found on clay tablets.
