Alexander Sarcophagus with Battle Scenes
The Alexander Sarcophagus (4th c. BC), made from Pentelic marble, displays detailed bas-reliefs of Alexander the Great in battle and hunting scenes. Found in Sidon’s Royal Necropolis, it uniquely depicts Alexander during his lifetime, merging Greek and Persian styles. Its preservation, with traces of original paint, provides a rare insight into Hellenistic art and cultural exchange of the period.
