Administrative Councils in Spanish America
The Plaza Mayor de Lima, a historic power center, saw the formation of juntas de gobierno (1808–1810) during the Spanish monarchy’s crisis. These administrative bodies were established in American viceroyalties, including the Viceroyalty of Peru, to support King Ferdinand VII during his exile. Some juntas were short-lived, while others persisted intermittently or stably for years, reflecting the era’s political turbulence.
