Simpleton from Los Disparates SeriesFrancisco Goya
Francisco Goya’s ’Simpleton’ is a drypoint print from the ’Los Disparates’ series (1815–1823), also known as ’Los Proverbios.’ Created late in Goya’s career, the series explores madness and folly through bizarre figures. Published posthumously in 1864, these prints may reflect popular proverbs or fables, offering dark commentary on human nature and society. Goya’s work profoundly explores the irrational and grotesque.
