Emergence of LifeLuis Alberto Acuña

This surrealist mural (1960s–70s) envisions the birth of life in Colombia’s ancient swamps. Hybrid reptilian forms rise from tangled waters, merging biology with myth. Set in the Cretaceous era (145–66 million years ago), when vast tropical seas covered the Saquencipá Valley, the scene transforms prehistory into mystical creation, reflecting Acuña’s fusion of science, imagination, and national landscape.
