Del Carmen Museum occupies a former Carmelite convent in Villa de Leyva, where cloistered patios and thick walls still suggest a life shaped by enclosure and prayer. Its collection of 17th–18th cc. Andean devotional art—works such as The Pietà and Gaspar de Figueroa’s The Transverberation of St Teresa —shows how Counter-Reformation spirituality was taught, felt, and made visible. For many locals, the museum remains less a gallery than a preserved memory of colonial faith, discipline, and craft.
