The Maritime Theatre
This secluded complex (2nd c. AD) served as Hadrian’s private retreat within his villa. Encircled by water and reached by a drawbridge, it contained living quarters and a peristyle. Known as the Maritime Theatre —though not a true theatre—it exemplifies Hadrian’s taste for Greek culture and philosophical solitude, uniting architecture and introspection.
