Gutenberg Square sits just off Strasbourg Cathedral, where trade routes and ideas once met in the medieval city. Named for Johannes Gutenberg, who worked in Strasbourg in the 1430s–40s while refining the techniques that made movable-type printing possible, the square honors the city’s part in a revolution of texts and public knowledge. The 19th-c. statue at its center turns an everyday crossroads of cafés and commerce into a quiet memorial to European literacy and debate.
