Students in the Hôtel-Dieu Courtyard
Max stands with a fellow Russian-American student in the courtyard of Beaune’s Hôtel-Dieu (1443). Its flamboyant Gothic arches and glazed-tile roof reflect the wealth of Burgundy’s dukes and the charity of Nicolas Rolin’s foundation for the poor. Now a museum and wine-auction hall, it links medieval devotion with Burgundy’s global cultural legacy.
