Courtyard of the Hôtel-Dieu
The courtyard of Beaune’s Hôtel-Dieu (1443) displays Burgundy’s iconic glazed-tile roofs, patterned in vivid diamond motifs of green, yellow, red, and black. Founded by Nicolas Rolin as a charitable hospital, it reflected both piety and ducal grandeur. Today its flamboyant Gothic style, preserved with care, makes it a symbol of Burgundy’s cultural and viticultural identity.
