Portrait of Nicolas RolinRogier van der Weyden
This portrait (c.1445–1450), from the Beaune Altarpiece, depicts Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor of Burgundy and co-founder of the Hospices de Beaune. Shown in devout prayer opposite his wife Guigone de Salins, he embodies both worldly power and spiritual humility. Their donor portraits enshrine their role as patrons within the eternal scene of the Last Judgment.
