Esta pintura de techo (1672–74) muestra a Hércules elevado entre los dioses, enmarcado por estuco dorado y paneles narrativos circundantes. Creada bajo Luis XIV, ocupa la bóveda central de un interior ceremonial y se integra en el programa decorativo más amplio de Versalles. Al elevar a Hércules al Olimpo, Le Brun presenta los triunfos del héroe como paralelos a la pretensión del rey de una autoridad divina.
