Baroque Altar

Blue and gold carving covers this Baroque altar, framing niches with saints and twisting columns that draw the eye toward the central Virgin Mary. The surrounding church (16th c.) serves as a major burial site for figures such as St Rose of Lima, reflecting its status in local devotion. The 16th c. statue in the chapel links early colonial piety to the later exuberant Baroque setting that now surrounds it.
