Modeled as an owl, this ceramic whistle from Greater Nicoya (500–800) turns a nocturnal bird into a compact ritual instrument. A rounded body is sharpened by incised decoration, while oversized, piercing eyes heighten its uncanny presence. Such imagery is often associated in Mesoamerican thought with wisdom, sorcery, and the underworld, aligning sound and symbolism in performance.
