Huetar Warrior with Trophy Head
This basalt figure (1000–1500 AD) from the Guápiles region portrays a Huetar warrior holding a severed head across his chest, the upraised arm once grasping a weapon. Such effigies embodied martial valor and ritual dominance, expressing how warfare and sacrifice affirmed hierarchy in pre-Columbian Costa Rican society.
