Guanacaste-Nicoya Jade God-Axe Pendant

A stylized jade pendant from the Guanacaste–Nicoya region (1–500) combines a human-like figure with an axe-head silhouette. In ancient Costa Rica, jade was widely valued for its rarity and was closely associated with social standing and ritual life. The axe form may have signaled authority or transformation. Such pendants were worn or placed in burials, linking their owners to elite identity and ancestry.
