Monument to Simón Bolívar

This monument (c. 1930) at the Quinta de Bolívar in Bogotá honors Simón Bolívar, liberator of northern South America. A neoclassical bust rises above a winged warrior holding a sword and shield inscribed with independence battles. Beside the Colombian flag stands the banner of Gran Colombia, bearing the Andean condor of Bolívar’s emblem—an image of unity and the republic he once envisioned.
