Roman Sundial

This carved stone sundial from Carthage (2nd–3rd c.) used the sun’s shadow to measure hours. Its engraved lines and Roman numerals show how time was divided in daylight. Such devices were essential in public and private spaces, reflecting the Roman emphasis on order, scheduling, and scientific knowledge in daily life.
