Pink Waters of Lake Retba

Lake Retba, also known as Lac Rose, is known for a pink surface tint driven by salt-loving Dunaliella salina algae in its hypersaline water. The colour can deepen in the dry season and in strong sun. Long associated with the Dakar Rally’s finish, the lake remains one of Senegal’s most distinctive natural sights.
