This gilded throne backrest (c. 1323 BC) from Tutankhamun’s tomb depicts a rare intimate scene of the king seated as his queen, Ankhesenamun, applies perfume. Above them, the Aten sun disk radiates divine blessing, reflecting the theological shifts of the Amarna period , when pharaoh Akhenaten promoted monotheism centered on the sun god Aten. This artwork reveals the enduring impact of Amarna’s religious innovations on Egyptian art and culture.
