Royal Emblems on Tutankhamun’s Funerary Mask
This detail from Tutankhamun’s funerary mask (c. 1323 BC) features the uraeus cobra (Wadjet ) and vulture (Nekhbet ), symbols of divine protection over Lower and Upper Egypt. Crafted from gold and inlaid with glass and semi-precious stones, these emblems affirmed the pharaoh’s legitimacy and sacred guardianship. They extended their protective power into his eternal journey through the afterlife.
